Below we have compiled a quick list of the most frequently asked questions our farm receives regarding our meat CSA program along with their answers. Please feel free to e-mail or call with any additional questions!
Are your meats and poultry certified organic? No, our meats and poultry are conscientiously raised! Our farm is part of a dynamic and flourishing local food economy- one that encompasses many farms and agricultural ventures as well as restaurants and carnivores! We believe strongly in the local food movement and the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices.
Can I join the CSA at any point? We offer four different starting points: January, March, July and September. You will be notified by e-mail with CSA starting details as well as a copy of the current pick-up schedule upon subscription.
What size share do you recommend? There is no exact answer to this question, as eating habits vary from person to person and family to family. In general, we suggest a quarter share for singles or couples, a half share for couples or small families and a large share for families. We allow folks to upgrade their share size, if after joining the CSA, the determination is made that a larger sized share is preferred.Can I change my share size? Yes, shares can be upgraded only, and charges will be prorated.
What if I need to cancel my share? Shares may only be cancelled before the first pickup with a cancellation fee of $50.
Can I request a lamb/beef/pork/chicken free share? Unfortunately we are not able to accept requests for pork or chicken free shares. We do however accept request for lamb or beef-free shares.
Can shares be customized? Can I make special requests? We are unable to offer customized shares. Occasionally requests are made for special items. While we cannot custom pack shares to include these items, CSA share contents do vary, and we will try to match shares with requests at the CSA pick-ups, when possible. Special orders can be placed for requested items.
Can special orders be placed for an additional or select item(s): Many folks make special orders for additional items to be picked up with their CSA shares. We suggest placing these orders as early as possible in order for us to plan.
What if I miss a pick-up or cannot make the scheduled pick-up(s)? You can still pick-up your meat share. We offer members the following options. Note: The options requiring notification are only available given 48 hours notice.

What if it snows or bad weather is forecasted for a CSA pick-up date? Occasionally we must cancel and reschedule a CSA pick-up at various points during the year. You will be notified by e-mail with details. As this sometimes must be done very last minute, we suggest that you always see our website or call to confirm the CSA pick-up before traveling to the share pick-up.
Can I pick my share up at the farmers’ markets? No, shares are only available for pick-up at the designated CSA pick-up locations on the scheduled days. We ask our membership to please respect this rule.
How is the meat packaged? The meat included in the shares is packaged and labeled at a USDA certified facility. Packages vary in size depending upon the type and cut of meat. As a general rule, packages range from 1-3 lbs. in weight and are appropriate for most single meal recipes.
How long does the meat last? The meat is freshly processed, frozen and distributed to share members. As a general rule, non-smoked pieces of meat are good kept in the freezer for 12-16 months. Smoked pieces of meat, such as ham or bacon are good kept in the freezer for 8-10 months. As stated above, the meats included in the CSA are freshly processed, and for this reason occasionally, are included fresh (meaning they have not been frozen yet). Fresh cuts can be refrigerated for use in 1-4 days or can be frozen for later use.
How do I Renew my subscription? We always reserve space for current members to renew their CSA share. To renew, submit a subscription form via our website or visit us at the farmers' markets or CSA pick-up locations. Cash, check or credit cards accepted.
When does the members’ discount become active? The members’ discount is activated upon sign-up for a CSA share, even if your share is not scheduled to begin for a few months. The discount can only be used for meat purchases at farmers’ markets made by cash or check. The discount cannot be applied towards poultry purchases or special pre-requested items or holiday orders.
What else should I know about a meat CSA share? Meat CSA members receive a monthly e-newsletter containing information regarding current CSA pick-ups, farm happenings, as well as cooking suggestions and recipes. Our farm uses the monthly newsletter to communicate important CSA information with share members, so we encourage folks read it monthly.
