You Are What You Eat
Beyond the philosophical differences that exist in regards to raising local grass-fed meat vs. factory farmed, grain-fed meat, there are several reasons in regards to good health and nutrition to eat grass-fed meats. Of course, continued research is still being done in an effort to document and discover the healthful benefits of grass-fed meats and poultry.
The Benefit: Today red meat consumption comes with a significant health warning label: eat only in moderation. Grass-fed red meat, however is different. Compared to that produced by factory farms, the meat produced by our animals is healthier – lower not only in total fat but saturated fat as well, resulting in meat with fewer calories as well as less cholesterol! Grass-fed meat also contains higher levels of vitamin E and C, beta-carotene, as well as higher levels of two very important health promoting fats: omega 3-fatty acids and conjugated linoleic acid or CLA’s.
